The Formula One Singapore Grand Prix is making significant strides towards sustainability by targeting a 50% reduction in carbon emissions from energy consumption by 2028. A recent carbon footprint report revealed that a staggering 96% of emissions stemmed from lighting and facility energy use.

To combat this, Singapore GP is conducting trials with renewable fuel derived from treated vegetable oil to power its generators. The circuit will also be illuminated by energy-efficient LED lights, while 1,500 solar panels will supply the Pit Building's energy needs for a month.

Moreover, eco-friendly solar-powered toilets with water-saving features will be available, potentially saving over 129,000 liters of water and reducing plastic bottle waste by 160,000 units.

Singapore GP is committed to measuring the average per-attendee carbon emissions to track progress in reducing its environmental impact. While it currently doesn't account for emissions generated by international fans attending the event, plans to address this issue in the future are in place.

The event is also considering transitioning to a daytime race to lower energy consumption, although it raises questions about preserving the unique spectacle of the night race. Balancing sustainability and maintaining the allure of the event is a challenge Singapore GP aims to tackle.
